Delete my data
You can erase your Fluento AI account and everything we hold about you in two ways. Both satisfy your rights under the DPDP Act 2023, GDPR, CCPA, and the Google Play / Apple App Store deletion requirements.
Option 1 — In the app (fastest)
- Open the Fluento AI app and go to Profile → Settings → Account.
- Tap Delete my account.
- Confirm with your password or OTP.
- You'll receive an email confirming deletion is in progress.
Option 2 — Email request (no account needed)
If you can't sign in, or don't have the app installed, send us an email:
Subject: Data Deletion Request
Body should include:
- Email address registered with your Fluento AI account
- Phone number (if you signed in with phone OTP)
- Full name on the account (to help verify)
- A statement: "I request deletion of my personal data under the DPDP Act 2023 / GDPR Art. 17 / CCPA Sec. 1798.105."
We may ask one verification question (e.g., "when did you last practice?") to prevent impostor requests.
What gets deleted
- Your profile, name, email, phone, and password hash
- All voice recordings (immediately, not 90 days)
- Transcripts, conversation history, CEFR progress
- Phrase book, mistake notebook, pair streaks
- Device tokens, push notification settings
- Pseudonymous analytics identifiers tied to your account
What we must keep (and why)
Indian law forces us to keep a minimal set of records even after you delete your account:
- Payment records — kept 7 years (Income Tax Act Sec. 44AA & Rule 6F). Only: order ID, payment ID, amount, date, GST breakdown.
- GST invoices — kept 8 years (CGST Act Sec. 36). Required for tax audit.
- Audit logs — kept 180 days for security + anti-fraud. Pseudonymised (account ID only, no PII).
- Unsubscribe record — kept indefinitely to honour your unsubscribe from future marketing.
These residual records are siloed, access-controlled, and NOT used to contact you or profile you.
How long it takes
We process deletion requests within 30 days from receipt — usually within 48 hours. You'll get an email confirmation when it's done.
If your request is complex (e.g., spans multiple accounts), we may extend by up to 30 days and will tell you why.
Not ready to delete?
You may prefer less drastic actions:
- Export your data — request a machine-readable JSON dump (email us with subject "Data Export Request").
- Pause notifications — Settings → Notifications → off.
- Withdraw specific consents — marketing, analytics, voice retention — each is separately revocable.
- Downgrade to Free — cancel your subscription; keep your data and streak.
